FreeBASIC is a free and open source multiplatform compiler and programming language based on BASIC, designed by Andre Victor T. Vicentini and first released in 2004. It provides syntax compatible with programs originally written for Microsoft QuickBASIC, while also adding modern features such as object oriented programming and operator overloading that QuickBASIC never had. Unlike QuickBASIC, FreeBASIC is a command line compiler by default, and a separate integrated development environment must be installed to get an editor. The compiler is licensed under the GNU General Public License version 2 or later, with its standard libraries under the Lesser GPL, and it runs on Windows, Linux, FreeBSD and, in the past, MS-DOS and Xbox, though the Xbox port is no longer maintained. Entity-backed identity for the typing discipline value this language already carries as an enum fact, resolved to a concept entity by an explicit value-to-entity map (phase 3 bucket conversion, docs\design_entity_backed_browse_buckets_20260928.md). The enum fact itself stays on the entity unchanged.
