Ballerina is an open-source programming language developed by WSO2, first released in 2017, designed specifically for building network-distributed and cloud-native applications, with language-level constructs for network communication, data types matching common wire formats such as JSON and XML, and graphical sequence-diagram views generated directly from the source code to visualize service interactions. Ballerina combines features of general-purpose, concurrent and functional programming languages, aiming to make writing correct, resilient microservices and integration code as natural as writing conventional application logic.
