Swift is Apple's general-purpose, multi-paradigm programming language, first released in 2014 as a modern replacement for Objective-C. Swift combines protocol-oriented, object-oriented and functional programming features with a strong, safety-focused static type system, and is the primary language for developing applications across Apple's platforms (iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS and tvOS), with an open-source toolchain, released in 2015, that also targets Linux and Windows.
