Yoav Freund is an Israeli professor of computer science at the University of California San Diego who works mainly on machine learning, probability theory and related applications. He is best known for his work on the AdaBoost algorithm, an ensemble learning method that combines many weak learning machines into a more robust one, for which he and Robert Schapire received the 2003 Godel Prize; he was also awarded the 2004 Paris Kanellakis Award and elected an AAAI Fellow in 2008.
