C with Classes is the historical precursor to C++, created by the Danish computer scientist Bjarne Stroustrup and first appearing in 1982. As its name states plainly, it extended the C programming language with classes, adding object-oriented structure on top of C's existing procedural core so that related data and the functions that operate on it could be grouped together. Its typing was static, strong and nominative, with some type inference, carrying forward C's discipline while adding the new class mechanism. Stroustrup's later, more complete redesign of the language was released as C++, and C with Classes itself stopped being used once that successor language took over; the phrase c with classes also lives on informally, sometimes as a mild put-down, for C++ code that is written in a plain, C-like style rather than making real use of the language's object-oriented features.
