bridgeOS is an embedded operating system that Apple created and develops exclusively for its own hardware, first released on October 27, 2016. It runs on Apple's T series chips, found in the MacBook Pro and other Mac computers, and is based on Apple's watchOS. bridgeOS manages functions tied to that chip, including the Touch Bar OLED touchscreen strip, Touch ID fingerprint sensing, SSD encryption and cooling fan control, and it receives its updates over the air through macOS rather than as a separate installable system.
