Android Things

Android Things was an embedded operating system Google built on the Android platform for internet of things devices, announced at Google I/O 2015 under the code name Brillo and released as version 1.0 in 2018. It originally targeted low power, memory constrained devices needing as little as 32 to 64 megabytes of RAM, communicating over Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Low Energy and managed through a cloud console for provisioning and updates. In February 2019 Google shifted its focus toward smartphone class devices, mainly smart speakers and displays, and hardware makers including JBL, Lenovo and LG released smart home devices running it. Google stopped accepting new device registrations on January 5, 2021 and shut the service down entirely on January 5, 2022.
