Digital Libraries and Archives

Digital Libraries and Archives groups the computing pioneers in this atlas whose central, explicitly stated contribution concerns building or studying online systems that collect, preserve and make digital resources accessible over time. Members range from researchers and practitioners who founded large-scale digital preservation and internet archiving projects, through scholars of information studies who study how digital collections are organized, described and used. This is a named subarea of the ACM Computing Classification System Information Systems area, distinct from the transactional and query-processing concerns of Data Management Systems and from the ranking and search concerns of Information Retrieval Systems: a pioneer belongs here when the cited contribution is specifically about the collection, preservation or scholarly organization of a digital corpus rather than the general database engine or search-ranking technology beneath it.
