Benoît Minisini is the French software developer who created Gambas, a Basic dialect with object extensions and a graphical development environment for Linux. On the about-me page of the Gambas wiki he describes himself as a Frenchman living in Paris, born in 1972, for whom programming has been a passion since the age of twelve and is now his job. His passion started with the Basic language on an Amstrad CPC 464 and later an Atari 520 STE. He started the Gambas project to give Linux a graphical development environment based on a Basic interpreter that is as easy as Visual Basic, and he describes the language as a Basic language with object extensions, inspired by Java, whose class files are compiled and then executed by an interpreter.
