Brad Fitzpatrick

Information Systems

Brad Fitzpatrick is an American programmer, born on 5 February 1980, who is best known as the creator of LiveJournal. He is also the author of several free software projects, among them memcached, WebSub, OpenID and Perkeep. LiveJournal grew out of a journaling program he wrote for himself as a college freshman at the University of Washington, and it later became a company, Danga Interactive, which he sold to Six Apart in 2005. He then worked at Google, where he was part of the team behind the Go programming language, and in 2020 he joined Tailscale as a co-founder. LiveJournal itself began as a personal project and grew into his full time work.
