Erna Schneider Hoover, born on 19 June 1926, is an American mathematician who invented a computerized telephone switching method. The method prevented system overloads by monitoring call center traffic and prioritizing tasks on phone switching systems, which enabled more robust service during peak calling times. She worked at Bell Laboratories for over 32 years and was described there as a pioneer for women in the field of computer technology. The English Wikipedia lead says the invention revolutionized modern communication, and this atlas records it as a contribution to the computerized control of telephone switching.
