Friedrich L. Bauer

Friedrich L. Bauer was a German computer scientist who was a co-developer of the ALGOL programming language and is credited with introducing the stack, or last-in-first-out, principle into computer science for managing subroutine calls and expression evaluation. Bauer is also widely credited with proposing the term software engineering at a 1968 NATO conference convened to address what participants called the software crisis, the growing difficulty of building large, reliable software systems.
