Ion Stoica (born 1964 or 1965) is a Romanian-American computer scientist and professor of computer science at the University of California, Berkeley, where he co-directs the AMPLab. His research focuses on cloud computing, computer networking, distributed systems and big data analytics, and he is recognized for developing or contributing to the Chord peer-to-peer protocol, Apache Spark, Apache Mesos and Alluxio. He co-founded the companies Conviva, Databricks and Anyscale. He is an ACM Fellow, received the ACM Doctoral Dissertation Award in 2001, the PECASE award in 2002, a Sloan Foundation Fellowship in 2003, the SIGCOMM Test of Time Award in 2011, and the SIGOPS Mark Weiser Award in 2019.
