John A. Stankovic

John Anthony Stankovic is an American computer scientist known for research in real-time and embedded computing systems. He earned his BSc in electrical engineering from Brown University in 1970, then worked at Bell Labs in Whippany, New Jersey, before returning to Brown for graduate study, earning his MSc in 1975 and PhD in 1979 under Andries van Dam with a dissertation on structured systems and their performance improvement through vertical migration. He taught at the University of Massachusetts Amherst before joining the University of Virginia, where he held the BP America Professorship in the Computer Science Department and served as director emeritus of the Link Lab in the School of Engineering and Applied Science, retiring in 2023.
