Jurij Semkiw, also recorded in some sources as George Semkiw, was an engineer who maintained CSIRAC, one of the world's earliest stored-program electronic computers, at the University of Melbourne after meeting the machine's laboratory director while studying television theory at Melbourne Technical College. With an intimate, largely undocumented knowledge of the machine's internal workings, he redesigned its disk read electronics using germanium transistors. Decades later he joined fellow former CSIRAC engineers to build a machine that could recreate CSIRAC's pioneering computer music from the original paper program tapes.
