Maston Beard (1917 to 2000) was an Australian electrical engineer who partnered with Trevor Pearcey from 1947 to build CSIRAC, one of the earliest vacuum tube stored-program computers, engineering its electronic components while Pearcey handled the logical design; the pair ran CSIRAC's first program in November 1949. After the machine moved to the University of Melbourne in 1955, Beard continued applying computing techniques to civil aviation navigation aids, radio telescope data processing and telescope control, retiring from CSIRO in 1978 as Assistant Chief of its Division of Computing Research.
