Michael L. Kazar is an American engineer and technology executive who holds two Bachelor of Science degrees from MIT, in mathematics and in electrical engineering and computer science, and a PhD in computer science from Carnegie Mellon University. He is recognized as a co-creator of the Andrew File System, a distributed file system originally developed at Carnegie Mellon, and co-founded the company Transarc in 1989 to commercialize the technology; Transarc was acquired by IBM in 1994. He holds 38 patents related to file systems design and has served as Chief Technology Officer at multiple companies, including Spinnaker Networks and Avere Systems. His honors include the 2013 IEEE Reynold B. Johnson Information Storage Systems Award and the 2016 ACM Software System Award for his work on the Andrew File System.
