Panos Ipeirotis

Panos Ipeirotis is a Greek American computer scientist born in Serres, Greece on May 3, 1976, the Merchants' Council Professor of Technology and Business at the New York University Stern School of Business. His research focuses on data mining, crowdsourcing, human computation, and the economics of online information systems, and his studies of Amazon Mechanical Turk have shaped both academic research and coverage in publications such as the New York Times and The Economist. He earned a degree from the University of Patras and a master's degree and doctorate in computer science from Columbia University in 2004, has held research positions at Google and Meta's Reality Labs, and cofounded the AI consulting firm Detectica, later acquired by Compass. His honors include the ACM SIGKDD Test of Time Award, the Lagrange Prize in Complex Systems, and a National Science Foundation CAREER Award.
