Poul-Henning Kamp is a Danish software developer and a longtime contributor to the FreeBSD operating system, where he wrote the widely used md5crypt implementation of password hashing and built major pieces of the system including the GEOM storage framework, the GBDE encrypted storage layer, parts of the UFS2 file system and the FreeBSD Jails containment mechanism. He is the lead architect of Varnish Cache, an open source HTTP accelerator used to speed up busy websites. In 1998 he also wrote the Beerware license, an informal software license that permits any use of the code in exchange for buying the author a beer if the two ever meet.
