Rafail Ostrovsky is a distinguished professor of computer science and mathematics at UCLA known for his research in algorithms and cryptography, including contributions to computer security theory and practice. He earned his PhD from MIT in 1992 under Silvio Micali with a thesis on software protection and simulation on oblivious RAMs. He received the IEEE W. Wallace McDowell Award in 2022, the RSA Award for Excellence in Mathematics in 2018, and is a Fellow of the IEEE, the ACM and the AAAS as well as a Fellow of the International Association for Cryptologic Research.
