Sherri Nichols is an American software engineer, data scientist and baseball statistician. She pursued graduate studies in computer science at Carnegie Mellon University and, in the 1980s, co-created the Andrew File System with her husband David Nichols, work for which the pair shared the 2016 ACM Software System Award. She is also known for her influence on the early Sabermetrics movement in the 1980s and 1990s, including Nichols' Law of Catcher Defense, extensive play-by-play data collection, and her co-creation of the Defensive Average statistic.
