Vladimir Pentkovski

Vladimir Pentkovski was a Soviet and American computer scientist, born in Moscow in 1946, the son of mathematician Mstislav Pentkovskii. He worked at the Lebedev Institute from 1970 to 1992 as an architect of the Soviet Elbrus supercomputers and the El-76 programming language, work recognized with the USSR State Prize in 1987. In 1993 he joined Intel, where he led the team that developed the architecture of the Pentium III processor, reaching the rank of Senior Principal Engineer; he later also worked with the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology on bioinformatics and drug design computing. He died in Folsom, California, in 2012.
