Xia Peisu was a Chinese computer scientist who led the team that built Chinas first general-purpose electronic digital computer, completed in 1958, after studying computer engineering in the Soviet Union and earlier electrical engineering at the University of Edinburgh. She went on to help establish computer science research and education programs in China and is often referred to there as the mother of Chinese computing for her role in founding the countrys computing discipline.
