QBasic is an integrated development environment and interpreter for a dialect of the BASIC programming language, based on the QuickBASIC compiler and created at Microsoft in 1991. Code typed into its editor is compiled to an intermediate representation, and that representation is then interpreted on demand inside the environment itself, so a program can be run and tested at once without a separate build step. It runs under nearly all versions of DOS and under 32-bit versions of Windows, and it can be run through emulation such as DOSBox or DOSEMU on Linux, FreeBSD and 64-bit Windows. The Programming Language Database relates it to QuickBASIC, GW-BASIC, QB64 and Microsoft Small Basic, and lists its keywords, line comments, integers, floats and strings together with the PRINT statement used for debugging and for the classic Hello World program.
