Amazon Web Services

Amazon Web Services is a subsidiary of Amazon that provides on-demand cloud computing platforms and APIs to individuals, companies and governments on a metered, pay-as-you-go basis. Amazon began offering the first AWS services in 2006, starting with the Simple Storage Service and the Elastic Compute Cloud, after building similar infrastructure internally to run its own retail operations. AWS became the market-leading commercial cloud platform, letting customers rent computing, storage, database and countless other services instead of buying and operating their own data centers, and its success established the broader infrastructure-as-a-service industry that followed it.
