Atlas Supervisor

The Atlas Supervisor was the program the University of Manchester wrote to manage processing resources on its Atlas Computer, first running in 1962, letting the machine handle multiple tasks and user programs concurrently and providing virtual memory. It is considered by many historians to be the first recognizable modern operating system, and the computer scientist Per Brinch Hansen called it the most significant breakthrough in the history of operating systems.
