Dell Networking Operating System

Network and Internet Systems

Dell Networking Operating System, abbreviated DNOS, is a network operating system that runs on switches sold under the Dell Networking brand. It is derived from two earlier code bases: DNOS 6.x descends from the PowerConnect operating system, while DNOS 9.x descends from the Force10 operating system, also known as FTOS. DNOS 9.x targets Dell's faster 10-gigabit and above switching hardware, including the S-series switches and the Z-series 40-gigabit core switches, while DNOS 6.x runs on the N-series switches. As a network operating system it is distinct from a general-purpose computer operating system, providing the control-plane software that manages switching and routing functions on Dell's networking hardware rather than running end-user applications.
