Heroku is a cloud platform as a service supporting several programming languages, founded by James Lindenbaum, Adam Wiggins and Orion Henry and in development since June 2007, when it supported only the Ruby programming language. Heroku was among the first cloud platforms of its kind, letting a developer deploy an application directly from source control without configuring or managing the underlying servers, and it later added support for Java, Node.js, Scala, Clojure, Python, PHP and Go. Salesforce acquired Heroku in 2010, and it remains widely used for quickly deploying and scaling small and mid-sized web applications.
