Human68k

Operating System

Human68k is the operating system of the Sharp X68000, a home computer that Sharp released in Japan in 1987. It was developed for Sharp by Hudson Soft and is an MS-DOS workalike: its commands are in English and closely resemble those of MS-DOS, and its executable files carry the extension .X. Versions before 2.0 had command-line output only for common utilities such as format and switch, while later versions included forms-based versions of them. At least three major versions were released, with several updates in between. Early X68000 models came with a graphical shell called VS, or Visual Shell, later models were packaged with SX-Window, and a third shell, Ko-Window, has an interface similar to Motif. Human68k itself, along with the console and SX-Window C compiler suites and the BIOS ROMs, was later released as public domain software.
