Molinux

Molinux was a Linux operating system built on Ubuntu by the regional government of Castilla-La Mancha in Spain together with the Fundacion Insula Barataria, launched in 2005 to help close the digital divide by offering a low-cost, easy-to-use system as the region worked to expand access to the information society. Its name comes from the Spanish word for windmill, molino, and each version was named for a character from Cervantes' Don Quixote; the final release, version 6.2 Merlin, shipped December 24, 2010, based on Ubuntu 10.10 with Linux kernel 2.6.32, GNOME 2.30, OpenOffice.org 3.2 and Firefox 3.6. The regional government adopted the open source approach without requiring its use, saying the software was free to compete on its own merits.
