MOSIX is a proprietary distributed operating system. Its early versions were based on older Unix systems, but since 1999 it has focused on Linux clusters and grids, where it automatically manages process placement across nodes without requiring applications to be modified or linked against any special library, files to be copied, or users to log in to remote nodes, much as in a symmetric multiprocessing system.
