Can MariaDB replace MySQL without changing anything?
Often an easy upgrade from MySQL since MariaDB 10.0 but not guaranteed to need no changes.
Often, but not always without changes. MariaDB's own documentation says that until MariaDB 5.5, its versions functioned as a drop-in replacement for the equivalent MySQL version, with some limitations. From MariaDB 10.0 it is described as usually still very easy to upgrade from MySQL, and its data files are generally binary compatible with those of the equivalent MySQL version. The documentation also lists incompatibilities and feature differences between specific MariaDB and MySQL releases, so a migration should be checked against the versions involved.
