Cython

Typed Superset Language

Cython is a superset of the Python programming language, designed to give C-like performance with code that is mostly written in Python. It is a compiled language that generates CPython extension modules, which regular Python code can then load and use with the import statement. The Programming Language Database dates it to 2007, notes that its early development happened in the SageMath organization on GitHub, and lists Python, C, Pyrex and Sage among its related languages. It also records that fifteen other concepts in its database link to Cython, including Pandas, SciPy and Scikit-learn. Its example compares a plain Python function with a typed Cython function and shows the typed version running far faster.
