LiveCode

LiveCode is a cross platform rapid application development environment and scripting language inspired by HyperCard, developed by the company now called LiveCode Ltd., which introduced the product in 2001 under its earlier name, Runtime Revolution, and was renamed in March 2015. Its scripting language, LiveCode Script, belongs to the xTalk family of languages that also includes HyperCard's HyperTalk. The system is built on the MetaCard engine, which Runtime Revolution acquired in 2003, and LiveCode is often described as the most widely used HyperCard and HyperTalk clone, offering a much larger set of features while keeping HyperCard's basic simplicity. Licensing has changed over time: a free and open source LiveCode Community Edition was released under the GNU General Public License in April 2013 after a crowdfunding campaign, but that open source edition was discontinued starting with version 9.6.4 on August 31, 2021, after which the product returned to being proprietary.
