Q is an array programming language developed by Arthur Whitney and Kx Systems, first released in 2003 as the query and programming language embedded in the kdb+ time-series database, itself widely used in financial trading systems for its speed at processing large volumes of time-stamped data. Q is a terse, vector-oriented language descended from Whitney's earlier language K, itself descended from APL, and combines array-processing operators with an embedded SQL-like query language for working directly against kdb+ tables.
