Starlark is a lightweight, high level programming language designed for embedded use inside other applications, released in 2015 as part of the Bazel build system under its original name, Skylark, and renamed Starlark in 2018. It uses a subset of Python's syntax and is deterministic and hermetic by default, properties suited to reproducible build systems. Its first implementation was written in Java, with later implementations following in Go in 2017 and in Rust in 2021, the latter built by Meta for use in the Buck build system. Beyond Bazel and Buck, Starlark has been adopted by a range of other projects, including Isopod, skycfg and Uber's Starlark Worker, and on GitHub it ranks among the top fifty programming languages by developer activity.

Entity-backed identity for the typing discipline value this language already carries as an enum fact, resolved to a concept entity by an explicit value-to-entity map (phase 3 bucket conversion, docs\design_entity_backed_browse_buckets_20260928.md). The enum fact itself stays on the entity unchanged.
