Eugene Wong

Eugene Wong (born December 24, 1934, in Nanjing, China) is a Chinese-American computer scientist and mathematician, professor emeritus of electrical engineering and computer sciences at the University of California, Berkeley. He was a co-creator of INGRES, one of the earliest relational database management systems, work for which he shared the 1988 ACM Software System Award with Michael Stonebraker and Gerald Held. His honors include election as an IEEE Fellow in 1974, a Guggenheim Fellowship in 1968, fellowship in the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 1980, membership in the National Academy of Engineering in 1987, the Berkeley Citation in 1994, the IEEE Founders Medal in 2005, and recognition as an academician of Academia Sinica and a foreign member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences.
