Solidity

Object-Oriented Language

Solidity is a high-level, object-oriented programming language for implementing smart contracts on blockchain platforms, most notably Ethereum. Solidity was designed by Gavin Wood, Christian Reitwiessner, Alex Beregszaszi and several former Ethereum core contributors, and is statically typed, supporting inheritance, libraries and complex user-defined types. Programs written in Solidity are compiled to Ethereum Virtual Machine bytecode and deployed on the blockchain for execution.

FAQs

What does Solidity run on, and which languages shaped it?

It targets the Ethereum Virtual Machine and was influenced by C++, Python and JavaScript.

Solidity is a curly-bracket language designed to target the Ethereum Virtual Machine, so its programs run as smart contracts on Ethereum. Its documentation says it is influenced by C++, Python and JavaScript. It is statically typed and supports inheritance, libraries and complex user-defined types.
